AmeriCorps

WHAT IS AMERICORPS?

AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you.  It’s a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.

Each year, the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network offers opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local non-profit organizations.  Whether your service makes your community safer, gives a person a second chance, or helps a child in school, you’ll be getting things done through

AmeriCorps!

The Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network addresses critical needs in Cowlitz County in a variety of ways:

  • Helping adults find a second chance at a drug-free life

  • Assisting families that have experienced physical abuse

  • Supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities reach their goals to live in the community

  • Aiding non-English speaking children and adults to find their way to appropriate services

  • Reaching out to homeless Veterans to obtain housing and employment

  • Mentoring children of all ages with academic needs

BENEFITS OF SERVICE

As an AmeriCorps member, you’ll gain new skills and experiences—and you’ll also find the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping others while earning money for college or to pay for existing college loans!

ELIGIBILITY AND BENEFITS

AmeriCorps membership is open to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents 17 and older who have completed their GED or have received a high school diploma.  Members serve an 11 month period from September through July each year.  Upon successful completion of their service, members receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of up to $5,920.00 to pay for college or graduate school or to pay back qualified student loans.  During their service, members may be eligible to receive health coverage, and childcare benefits if you qualify along with student loan deferment.  Members also receive a modest monthly living allowance during their service term.
